Lip Fillers

With the season of love just around the corner, whether it's a treat for yourself or a treat from your intimate partner, maybe you feel like giving yourself a sensual boost just in time for Valentine’s day. If you’re looking for something minimally invasive and nothing too major then look no further with a non-surgical lip filler treatment.

What are Lip Fillers?

  • Lip fillers are injectable dermal fillers consisting of hyaluronic acid (HA) — a natural substance from your body that can help add and increase the shape, volume, and structure of your lips, giving you fuller and plumper lips.

  • With aging, people will naturally lose collagen and fat that can affect the appearance of one’s lips. Lip fillers do not necessarily stop the aging process and its effect on the lips but it will replace the lost collagen and fat on your lips restoring the appearance of your lips.

  • Lip fillers do not last forever, you’d usually have to repeat the treatment every 6 months as lip fillers typically last from 6 to 12 months. Of course, this also depends on a number of factors such as age and how fast calories break down in your body.

Things to consider

  • Many people get lip fillers for different reasons, it’s a personal decision for everybody.  You must consider how you would want your lips to look from doing the procedure. Usually, people consider lip fillers to increase the size of their lips for reasons such as:

    • Restoring lip size that comes with aging that may change the size and appearance of the lips, philtrum, and between the corners of the mouth.

    • Correct lip shape when lips appear to be asymmetrical in size and shape.

    • Smooth out visible wrinkles on the sides of the mouth.

    • To boost confidence and self-esteem by enhancing facial appearance.

  • Before you get the go-ahead and proceed with the lip filler procedure, your doctor will first assess factors such as your physical and mental health.

    • Doctors will assess if you have any risk factors or any underlying medical conditions that may affect the healing process or the effect of the procedure.

    •  Doctors will also ask for your reasons and expectations on getting lip fillers.

How does the procedure work?

  • If you get the okay to proceed, your doctor will then examine and measure your face and assess the look you are considering for your lips before finally scheduling your procedure.

  • During the procedure, the doctor will apply a topical anesthetic to numb out your limbs to help make the procedure as painless as possible. Afterward, the doctor will then inject the lip filler into different parts of your mouth. Your lips are completely numb but it is possible to feel a slight pinching sensation.

  • Once done with the procedure, your doctor will first observe and monitor you for side effects until you are cleared from the monitoring period. Your lips will be swollen from the procedure and may take a duration of 24 hours earliest and up to a week latest for it to completely heal.

Because getting lip fillers is a personal decision, take some time to consider the procedure. Do your research and consult a doctor that specializes in the field. Take your time in making this decision.
